Science is such a massive subject that you just can learn enough about it all to make a real difference so scientists just learn lots and lots of details about a small specific area of science. It means that we can find out more and so hopefully answer the questions we have quicker.

We have to look at as much as we can, repeating work is a waste of time. As scientist, to prove we can be scientists we have to do something that no one else has done before or looked at in that way, this is not too easy, but we all go though it.

Like Vee says we all get very specialised, which means that we know a huge amount about a tiny area. This wouldn’t be much use on its own, but when we add all of our knowledge together we can really moves things forward – its a bit like building an aeroplane – there are thousands of different components, and nobody is an expert in every single piece, but when they are all put together they make somethings that flies.
