In the competition? I don’t know, they are all great and know their stuff. But in the big world of science I really like Robert Winston, he’s one of my role models in science.

I quite like the maverick scientists who really are prepared to put ther neck on the line for their science, like Nobel prize winning Barry Marshall. Prof. Marshall is an Australian doctor. He famously experimented on himself to prove his theory that a bacterium was responsible for most stomach ulcers. He drank the bacterium he suspected was the cause, and as a result really changed how doctors understand and treat ulcers. It was a very brave (and revolting!) thing to do and it has had an impact on the treatments of millions of people all over the world!

Rosalind Franklin – one of the first women of science that anybody has really heard of. She took special photographs that helped work out the structure of DNA – although Watson & Crick still managed to hog all the credit.
