It’s more of a question of which organ forms last. Nearly all the organs are fully formed by 27-30 weeks of the pregnancy, the brain and the lungs being slightly behind in development compared to the other organs. The heart is one of the first organs to form which occurs at only 6 weeks into the pregnancy. The lungs being later to fully develop than some of the other organs is why it’s often breathing problems that are associated with babies that are born prematurely.

Like Vee says, all of the organs are pretty much working, way before a child is born. The organs that undergo the biggest change in function immeditely after birth are the lungs, because that’s when they are first exposed to air.

Actually, the first organ the baby needs, before its even a baby if the placenta, yes its an accessory organ, but with out it the baby wouldnt develop at all, it is discarded immediately after birth, but is functioning from the moment it is implanted after conception (in a manner of speaking).
