It can come from many sources – include burning fossil fuels (oil, gas) wind turbines, wave power, solar energy, hydroelectric dams and nuclear power stations. In each of these settings the energy is taken from the orginal source (eg the movement of the waves, or the heat of the sun) and converted into electricty that we can pipe into our houses and use to run our lights, TV and other appliances. With the right equipment almost every form of energy can be converted into electricty. At my daughters school they have a bicycle hooked up to a lamp. When someone pushes the pedals round the lamp lights up with the electricty produced!

Many places. It’s generated by man, it occurs naturally, we produce it ourselves, internally.

I think Sallie has covered all the sources – interestingly in Essex we have anaerobic digestors that create gas which they use to generate electricity. The digestors are fed with all the garden and kitchen waste.
