The first time I ever did DNA analysis. It’s such fun making up all the things you need, the gel, the dye, the tanks (not the ones used in war, the plastic science kind, the ones to put liquid in). Then trying to get the right bits in the right place, making sure it’s all accurate and neat, I’m a neat freak so this helps.

I think the most fun is the satisfaction, that I got it right, it worked and I felt good about myself for doing it well.

The best experiments are the oes where you get really dramatic results! Most of the stuff I do nowadays just involves looking and numbers of a screen and seeing whether statitical tests are significant – its not as exciting as putting two chemicals together and seeing them explode. When I was at school I really enjoyed playing with cloud chambers in physics and we were also allowed to draw patterns on our skin with silver nitate in chemistry – but you are probably not allowed to do that now.
