      There is a fantastic website called http://www.cellsalive.com that shows you exactly how big blood cells and all sorts of other organisms are in relation to a pin head. The animations are brilliant. Check it out.

      If you are talking about the red blood cells (the ones that carry oxygen around the body) then they about 6-8 microns wide and about 2 microns thick (a micron is 1,000th of a mm), SO if you had 140 red blood cells end to end they would fill the 1mm space on your ruler.
