      No, very few scientists acheive fame as you would see it – only the handful that you see on the telly. Some scientists do become very well known by other scientists who do the same type of work as them.

      Not really. I work with a lot of people, if anyone should be famous in my field then the head of my department should be. I do it because I enjoy my work, not for the limelight.

      When you work in science you get to be famous in your own world. So there are people all over the world who know who I am and what I do, but only because they work in the same area. It has some advantages because you get asked to go and talk to different groups. I have been very lucky to be asked to talk in Brasil, Canada, Singapore and all over Europe, because people who work there want to hear about our work.
