• Question: In media , genetic mutations are shown to have massive effects on people which is not seen in people today eg. marvel's x-men series. Do you think that one day humans will mutate in a way which could be seen like this (super) and if so , how do you think the general public would respond to these changes ?

Wow, a deep thinker. Ok, if you look at human history to date, we haven’t done very well at all, anyone different is immediately shuned, be it based on skin colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, hair colour; we as a species don’t like anything thats different. People are ‘scared’ of the unknown, a person is reasonable and tollerant. Sadly some people will believe what they are told and not find out for themselves if this ‘new thing’ is scary or it’s just, new!

How many times in your life have you looked at someone and thought “they are odd, I’m not going to talk to them”? I have, when I was younger. Now I look at everone equally, what you ahve to ask yourself is, will Society look at ‘mutants’ as equally as the individual does.

This is only something that can be answered if and when it comes. I hope that we as a people can open our minds to new possibilities as they present themselves in the future.

Yes – there are people today who have genetic make-up to make them super tall and super strong – it is likley that there will always be people who develop extreme human characteritics, but not super human powers, like the ability to fly or x ray vision – I think people will react to them the way they do now, by thinking that they are a bit odd – its not easy being different to everyone else

Yes, we can definitely evolve, but it would be a slower process than the multiple mutations the X-men would have I think. I suspect the general public would be pretty freaked out as they are in the comics/films. Personally, I’d love to meet them all!
